Anna Katharine Green (1846-1935) was a trailblazer in American detective fiction, earning her the moniker 'the mother of the detective novel'.
Prior to the Russian Revolution, around a dozen of Green's novels were translated into Russian. Some of these translations were based on French editions, and notably, in certain editions, the author's gender was misrepresented as male. Despite this, her works remained unpublished in the Soviet Union and gradually faded into obscurity. However, Russia's renewed interest in Green emerged about a decade ago through a dedicated translation project focused on Victorian-era detectives. This initiative led to the fresh translation of one of her stories and the reprinting of some old translations of her novels.
OCLC locates two copies, in the Stanford University Library and the UCLA.
