This commemorative book on Sergei Diaghilev's Russian Ballet was prepared by Russian-born theater critic, writer, and journalist Nikolai Ianchevskii (also known as Yantchevsky; 1896–1959), who emigrated after the Russian Civil War and settled in Paris. At times, he became involved with the Russian Opera in Paris, led by Georgian Prince Alexey Tsereteli, touring South America, and later collaborated with Nikolai Evreinov.
The book is richly illustrated with portraits and photographs of prominent figures from the Ballets Russes, including a portrait of Diaghilev by Georges Pogedaieff, Serge Lifar by Yves Brayer, as well as images of Anna Pavlova, Michel Fokine, Konstantin Korovin, Léon Bakst, Alexandre Benois, and Tamara Karsavina.
