This collection represents the most important compilation of American authors' short stories available in Russian at the time. A similar edition did not appear until World War II, when Russia and the USA became allies.
The collection includes the first Russian book appearances of Ring Lardner with 'Champion', Erskine Caldwell with 'Saturday Afternoon', 'Country Full of Swedes', and 'The Empty Room', George Milburn with 'Nigger Doctor', and Jack Conroy with an extract from his novel 'The Disinherited'. Hemingway's 'An Alpine Idyll' is also featured.
This unusual edition is notable for its portraits of the writers.

OCLC locates two copies of this edition: in the University of Virginia and the University of California Library.
