This issue of the magazine 'Abroad', which focuses on the situation and events in western countries and began publication in 1930, centers on the USA, covering topics such as the Great Depression, the Ku Klux Klan, and even one of the earliest Russian publications of a poem by Langston Hughes (his first Russian book appeared in 1932 only).
The cover, features an electric chair and the Statue of Liberty, along with other photomontages created by Alexander Rodchenko (1891–1956), while his wife, artist Varvara Stepanova (1894–1958), designed the issue.
