The translator, Aleksandr Olenich-Gnenenko (1893–1963), a journalist and poet, resided in Omsk and later in Rostov-on-Don. His translations of Edgar Allan Poe's verses are still highly regarded.
The cover design and illustrations were created by Anatoliy Mosin (1924-1979), a Rostov artist, caricaturist, and poster artist.
