This intriguing book, published in Moscow, is in English and is accompanied by a foreword and comments in Russian.
The foreword is authored by Dmitry Urnov (1936-2022), a literary critic and Shakespearean scholar known for his works on James Joyce, Daniel Defoe, and Charles Dickens. In 1991 he moved to the USA. In this foreword, he introduces readers to Lewis Carroll, delving into the historical era in which Carroll created his works, his travels to Russia, and the unique features of the language used in the book.
Evgenii Shukaev (1932-1988), a prominent cartoonist for the Soviet satirical magazine 'The Crocodile', contributed illustrations to this edition. In contrast to 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland', which was also published by Progress Publishing House in 1966 with illustrations by Shukaev and has been republished several times, this edition of 'Through the Looking-Glass' was published only once.
