These issues of the well-known children’s magazine ‘Koster’ featured the first publication of Alexander Scherbakov's translation of Lewis Carroll's ‘Through the Looking-Glass', which was initially published as a book in 1977. It appeared here with illustrations by Georgy (Gaga) Kovenchuk (1933-2015), an artist and illustrator who was a student of Alexei Pakhomov, a VKhUTEMAS graduate and painter, and served as a member of the editorial board of ‘Koster'. Moreover, Kovenchuk was a friend of Mikhail Belomlinskii, known as the ‘father’ of the Russian Hobbit. In 1971, Kovenchuk's personal exhibition was shut down just a few days after its opening. Since the mid-1980s, he lived and worked in France.
