The '4 Iskusstva' ('Four Arts') community brought together artists who had previously exhibited with the pre-revolutionary associations 'Mir Iskusstva' ('World of Art') and 'Golubaia Roza' ('Blue Rose'). The name 'Four Arts' reflected the inclusion of painters, sculptors, graphic artists, and architects, such as Alexey Shchusev and Ivan Zholtovsky. The community emphasized the value of individual expression and the importance of preserving figurative culture. The first exhibition of 'Four Arts' was held in 1924, and the last one took place in 1929. In 1931, the community was merged into AKhRR (the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia).
This particular exhibition featured artists such as Vera Mukhina, Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, Vladimir Favorsky, and Martiros Saryan, and was held at the Russian Museum in Leningrad. It was the only 'Four Arts' exhibition ever hosted in Leningrad.
