This auction catalog showcases the collection of an unknown individual and features items such as surimono (摺物; a refined genre of Japanese woodblock prints), e-goyomi (盲暦; Japanese picture calendars), hashira-e (柱絵; referred to in the catalog as nagaye, long and narrow pillar prints), ōban (大判; large-format woodcuts), drawings, illustrated books (one of which was part of Edmond de Goncourt’s collection), and stencils.
The collection includes works by esteemed artists such as Keisai Eisen, Yashima Gakutei, Totoya Hokkei, Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Kunisada, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Ryūryūkyo Shinsai, Kubo Shunman, Kitagawa Utamaro, Utagawa Hiroshige, and many others. The auction was held at Drouot from December 12 to 15, 1977.
The catalog is richly illustrated, showcasing numerous examples of woodcuts, primarily in black and white, with four illustrations in color.
