This trade catalog by Gosizdat (State Publishing House) comprises the following sections: 'Imperialism: Essence Theories', 'Eastern World and Imperialist Powers', 'Near East' (including books about Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, Arabia, Egypt, and Persia), 'Middle East' (Afghanistan and India), 'Far East' (covering Mongolia, China, Japan, and Indonesia), 'East Constitutions', 'Eastern World and Imperial Russia', 'Soviet East', 'Eastern World in Fiction', 'Children's Books', and 'Culture of the Ancient East'. Each description includes the author's name, title, translator/editor, page count, price, and a summary or quotes. Several books feature their cover illustrations.
Of particular interest are the works by Leo Trotsky showcased here. In 1926, he was expelled from the Politburo, and in 1927 (the year of the catalog's publication), he was removed from the Communist Party. In January 1928, Trotsky faced a year-long exile in Kazakhstan, followed by deportation to Turkey in February 1929. His name and all his books were banned for several decades.
