[England]. Anglia. A magazine about life in Britain today. # 2 (30).

[Translation by M. Koreneva].

London, The Foreign Office, 1969.
12mo, 112 pp.

In original illustrated wrappers.
Near very good condition, lightly rubbed.

The only lifetime publication of J.R.R. Tolkien in Russian.

'Anglia', a quarterly Russian language magazine, was prepared by the British propaganda agency Information Research Department for distribution in the Soviet Union from 1962 to 1992. This issue includes an excerpt from Chapter 7 of 'The Hobbit' (p. 30-40). It was published without the name of the translator. Most likely, this translation was prepared by Maiia Koreneva (1936-2016), an American literature researcher, translator, and literary critic who worked at the Gorky Institute of World Literature. The first full Russian translation of 'The Hobbit' appeared in 1976 only.

OCLC locates the complete set of this magazine only in the Trinity College Library in Dublin.
