The first Russian translation of Birthright by T.S. Stribling (1881-1965), an American writer and Pulitzer Prize laureate (1933). The title Drama krovi translates to ‘A drama of blood’.
Birthright tells the story of Peter Siner, a young African-American returning to his hometown in the American South after four years at Harvard. Stribling's intention with the novel was to showcase the differences between the South and the more integrated North, as well as portray the character’s struggles with prejudices of both his white and black neighbours.
Critiques of racial laws and discriminatory practices were immensely popular with Soviet readers.
