Rare first edition of the novel in the USSR in English. First edition of 'The Great Gatsby' in Ukraine. One of 50 000 copies printed.

First edition in Ukrainian language was published only in 1982.
In the USSR books in English usually were considered to be the adapted textbooks for schools or universities. However, this edition with original text was printed for 'common' readers. The preface is in the best traditions of Soviet propaganda: 'The lust for money, inherent in the so‐called "American Way of Life", proved a curse to many of his characters, and sometimes they became victims of their own wealth like Major Jay Gatsby in this book'. 
As the first Russian edition (1965), this book is printed without the epigraph by Thomas Parke D'Invilliers - a pen name of Fitzgerald.
The book is illustrated by Vyacheslav Dozorets (1941-1993), a graphic artist and later art editor-in-chief of the Ukrainian publishing house 'Dnipro'.
