Rare first book by Huxley in Russian, especially in good condition. The only edition of this first Russian translation.

The translation of Huxley’s acclaimed novel 'Point Counter Point' (1928) into Russian was undertaken by the translator Maria Abkina (1892-?), who was associated with the 'Soviet school' of literary translation under the guidance of Ivan Kashkin. Abkina also completed the first Russian translation of Archibald Cronin’s 'The Citadel', which was published in 1940.
Interestingly, this Russian translation of 'Point Counter Point' coincided with the novel's banning in Ireland in the same year due to its alleged 'offensive public morals'.
The cover design for the Russian edition was created by Mark Kirnarsky (1893-1941), a graphic artist and illustrator who studied architecture in Paris before furthering his education at the Imperial Academy of Arts and the Ukrainian State Academy of Arts under Georgy Narbut. Tragically, Kirnarsky perished during the siege of Leningrad.

OCLC locates only one copy of this edition: in the Library of the Ruhr.
