This charming post-war edition uses playful verses to teach children music literacy.
The author, Natalia Konchalovskaia (1903-1988), was a famous Soviet writer, poet, and translator, known for her popular children's books. Her father was the artist Petr Konchalovskii, and her grandfather was the prominent Russian artist Vasilii Surikov. Her sons, Andrei Konchalovsky and Nikita Mikhalkov, are renowned film directors.
The book is illustrated by Innokentii Shaposhnikov (Proskuriakov, Kesha, 1901-1960), an illustrator who worked under a pseudonym because he was born into a wealthy merchant family and likely wanted to avoid attention from the authorities. During WWII, he created a number of children's anti-fascist books published in the provincial town of Nalchik.
Some of the song notes are taken from a book by Professor Elena Gnesina (1874-1967), one of the founders of the famous music school in Moscow, The Gnessin State Musical College.

OCLC locates two copies of the 1946 edition: one at the Princeton University Library and one at the Berlin State Library.
