The book is described as 'the first biography of the legendary Vaslav Nijinsky ever published in English', but it is more accurately a literary biography rather than a piece of scientific research (in fact, the first English biography was likely Richard Buckle’s 'Nijinsky' (1971)).
This book is a translation of the 1974 Russian work by Vera Krasovskaya (1915–1999), a renowned Russian ballet historian, critic, and former dancer. Krasovskaya performed with the Kirov Ballet at the Mariinsky Theatre from 1933 to 1941 before transitioning to a career as a critic and studying at the Leningrad Ostrovsky Institute of Theatre. The book includes over 100 photographs from the archives of the Leningrad State Theater Museum, many of which were previously unpublished in the West.
