This collection of articles about the legendary ballet 'Le Sacre du printemps' ('The Rite of Spring') by Vaslav Nijinsky was prepared on the occasion of its revival at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, opening the 1990-1991 season and the exposition about it.
The book includes articles by: American choreographer and dance historian Millicent Hodson, who discusses her groundbreaking methodology for reconstructing the choreography; art historian Kenneth Archer, who examines the collaboration between Nijinsky, Stravinsky, and Roerich; musicologist François Lesure, who traces the press's reactions to the ballet and the scandal during its premiere; musicologist Dominique Jameux, who analyzes the innovative nature of the musical score; and historian Françoise Stanciu-Reiss, who offers a psychological portrait of Nijinsky during the creation of the performance.
