First edition of this 'important direct appeal to poor peasants'. Another significant aspect of the book is the inclusion of the draft of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (RSDLP) Program.
The RSDLP did not have its own program and party rules until 1903, despite being formed in 1898. The draft program was initially published in the newspaper 'Iskra' in June 1902. It was prepared by Lenin and Plekhanov, although there were numerous contradictions between them. Eventually, this program was adopted at the II Congress of the RSDLP in July-August 1903 and remained in force until 1919.
Published in May 1903, this edition was released by The League of Russian Social-Democracy Abroad, an organization founded by Lenin during his first exile in October 1901. However, after October 1903, the League came under the control of the Mensheviks, Lenin's opposition within the RSDLP.
This copy is from the library of collector Marcel Bekus, who emigrated from Russia in 1919. His collection included many books from the library of the RSDLP Central Committee.
The pamphlet was published under another pseudonym of Vladimir Lenin, N. Lenin.
The edition was banned by Russian censorship.
