In Soviet Russia, public performances of foreign popular music were prohibited. Nevertheless, information permeated through the Iron Curtain. The Beatles became incredibly popular in the circles of young people. The sincere love of the fans for the Beatles' music mixed with the pleasure of participating in something forbidden. Lennon's anti-war philosophy was the reason for the importance of his figure in the Soviet hippie movement. In this way, in St. Petersburg, the capital of informal Soviet youth, the idea arose to create a Temple of Love, Peace, and Music.
The back cover of this book contains information about the fundraising campaign for John Lennon's Temple in St. Petersburg. The advertising includes the slogan: 'Let's do it before we kick off'. 'The Temple of Love, Peace, and Music' was established in St. Petersburg in 1992 under the leadership of the prominent Beatles Russian fan Kolya Vasin. This temple museum was located on 'John Lennon street' (Pushkinskaya st., 10). There are some incredible decorations and paintings dedicated to the iconic singer and his group till nowadays.
The translation was prepared by an art critic, rock-music journalist, and the chief researcher of The Russian Museum Aleksei Kurbanovskiy (b. 1955).
