Very rare. First Russian translation of 'Arrowsmith'. The only edition of this translation. One of 6 000 copies printed.

The novel 'Arrowsmith' by Sinclair Lewis (1885-1951), the first American writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature (1930), was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1926. The same year the original text was published, the novel was translated into Russian.
This Russian translation was done by Mikhail Chekhov (1865-1936), a writer and theatre critic who was the younger brother of Anton Chekhov. Notably, from 1907 to 1917, Mikhail Chekhov was the publisher, editor, and almost sole contributor to the children's magazine 'Zolotoe Detstvo'. In 1913, the magazine published an anonymous translation of 'Alice in Wonderland', which was almost certainly Chekhov's work.
