First English translation. The book was originally published in French in 1957 under the title 'Les trois Grâces du XXe siècle: Légendes et Vérité'.

The author, the great dancer Serge Lifar (1905–1986), devoted this book to the lives and careers of three iconic Russian ballerinas of the early 20th century—Anna Pavlova, Tamara Karsavina, and Olga Spessivtzeva. Having had close personal associations with these dancers, Lifar offers original and truthful portrayals of their lives, debunking myths and correcting distortions in previous literature.
