First Russian edition of 'Pippi Longstocking'.

The first Russian edition of this book was prepared by translator Lilianna Lungina (1920–1998), who introduced Astrid Lindgren to Soviet readers and also translated works by Henrik Ibsen, Heinrich Böll, Knut Hamsun, and Boris Vian. Renowned director Oleg Dorman interviewed Lungina for a documentary film titled 'Podstrochnik', based on her life journey from the Stalinist purges and World War II to the Khrushchev thaw. However, the film languished for 11 years before finally being released in 2009, where it became a television hit. Lungina's monologue from the documentary was transcribed into a book, which has been published in English under the title 'Word for Word'.
The illustrations for the book were created by artist Lev Tokmakov (1928–2010). He received his education at the Moscow Institute for the Decorative and Applied Arts (Stroganov Academy) under Pavel Kuznetsov and Alexander Kuprin. Beginning in 1958, Tokmakov collaborated with the famous children’s magazine 'Murzilka' and became one of its most esteemed artists. Additionally, he taught illustration for many years at the Russian State Children’s Library.
