The British owned part of the hotel shares. In 1935, the Prince of Wales, later Edward VIII, stayed at the hotel. Notable guests such as Rabindranath Tagore and Arnold Joseph Toynbee also stayed at The Dunapalota.
The building was destroyed during the Second World War.
