The writer Emily Mindlin (1900-1981) dedicated this book to his journey to Svalbard (also known as Spitsbergen) and Norway, which took place during the rescue operation of Umberto Nobile's North Pole expedition on the icebreaker Krassin in the summer of 1928.
The artist Boris Berendhof (1904-1990) created the cover illustrations. He graduated from VKhuTEMAS in 1925.
