This is the second edition of the only book by Margaret Warner Morley (1858–1923), an American educator, biologist, and author of numerous children's books on nature and biology, published in Russian. It was printed in three editions by the private publisher 'Posrednik'.
The lithographed wrappers were designed by Nikolai Troshin (1897-1990), who studied at VKhUTEMAS and served as the chief designer of the renowned magazine 'USSR under Construction' from 1930 to 1934. Troshin specialized in lithographed 'production books' and, together with his wife Olga Deineko, authored and illustrated several such works for the State Publishing House.
