Roman Kaplan, Nicole Kidman and Philip Roth. Original photography.

[New York], 2002.
15,5x10 cm.

In good condition, lightly rubbed, traces of glue to back side.

This is an original photograph featuring the writer Philip Roth and actress Nicole Kidman. The photo was taken at the popular New York restaurant, the Russian Samovar, on April 26, 2002. It is likely that multiple copies of this photograph were produced, with one being displayed in the restaurant itself. The photo was captured during the filming of 'The Human Stain' movie (2003), in which both Kidman and Roth were involved. Philip Roth was known to frequent this restaurant.
The Russian Samovar was established in 1986 by emigrants from the USSR, including art critic Roman Kaplan, dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Nobel Prize laureate in Literature, Joseph Brodsky. Brodsky contributed a portion of his Nobel Prize money to help create the restaurant.
The restaurant also gained fame when Mikhail Baryshnikov and Sarah Jessica Parker filmed a scene for the TV series 'Sex and the City' there. New York magazine described it as 'the best bar for drinking vodka with the Russian intelligentsia'. A picture of Nicole Kidman's hand along with her autograph is featured in the restaurant's menu.
