First edition of 'The Catcher in the Rye' in the Ukrainian language. First appearance of Salinger in Ukrainian in book format.
The book also contains the novel 'Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters' (translator Oleksandr Terekh), and stories 'Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut' (translator Ol’ga Seniuk) and 'Franny' (Iurii Pokal’chuk).
'The Catcher in the Rye' was translated by Oleksiy Logvynenko (1946-2010). It's considered that he managed to deliver the informal character of the narration, but this translation has obviously been censored as well.
The book was translated from English but the titles of the main novel and story 'Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut' are a word-for-word translations of the Russian titles, not the English.
