This original illustration artwork for Carson McCullers's 'The Member of the Wedding' (1946) depicts the main character, twelve-year-old tomboy Frankie Addams. Her image resembles that of actress Julie Harris, who played Frankie in the 1952 film adaptation of 'The Member of the Wedding'.
The drawing was created by David Shterenberg (1931–2014), the son of avant-garde artist David Shterenberg (1881–1948). David Jr. studied at the Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute and, since 1958, worked at the State Children’s Publishing House (Detgiz).
The illustration was published in 1973 in Moscow in the collection of novels 'Segodnia i Vchera' ('Today and Tomorrow').
