This original drawing for Alistair MacLeod’s 'The Boat' (1968) was created by David Shterenberg (1931–2014), the son of avant-garde artist David Shterenberg (1881–1948). David Jr. studied at the Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute and, since 1958, worked at the State Children’s Publishing House (Detgiz).
The illustration was published in 1973 in Moscow in the collection of novels 'Segodnia i Vchera' ('Today and Tomorrow').
