The beautiful illustrations for the book were created by Lubov Mileeva (1894-1930), a female painter and book artist born in Ryazan, who studied at the Art School of the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts under Nicholas Roerich and Ivan Bilibin. According to recent research, she also attended classes at Pavel Filonov’s studio at the Academy of Arts during the early stages of the emergence of the 'Collective of Masters of Analytical Art'. Mileeva participated in ethnographic expeditions and studied the folk art of Russian villages. Her poster, ‘The New Way of Life', was awarded the gold medal at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1925. Mileeva's life tragically ended during an expedition in Asia due to typhoid fever.
