This photobook by the circus reviewer and chief editor of 'Soviet Estrada and Circus' magazine Nikolay Krivenko is devoted to the Soviet circus: the well-known Soviet clowns (Oleg Popov, Yuri Nikulin, Leonid Yengibarov, Mikhail Rumyantsev), aerialists (Valentina Surkova), jugglers (Grigory Novak, Nikolay Olkhovikov), animal trainers (Durov's dynasty, Irina Bugrimova, Valter Zapashny, Margarita Nazarova), illusionists (Igor Kio), the circus on ice, pupils of the circus school, etc.
Rare photos of performances are accompanied by surrealistic illustrations. According to some sources, they were created by the graphic artist and book illustrator Vasiliy Valerius (b. 1943).
Later bilingual Russian-French edition also appeared.
