This collection of Altai tales was illustrated by Viktor Duvidov (1932–2000), a Spanish-born graphic artist, painter, and illustrator. Duvidov's parents were Spanish anti-fascists who died during the Spanish Civil War. In 1936, he was brought to the USSR and raised by a family of Moscow doctors. He studied at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute and, alongside his friend May Miturich, contributed to the design of the Moscow Paleontological Museum. Tragically, Duvidov was killed under mysterious circumstances in his apartment at the age of 67.
