This book is by Anatole Bourman (1888-1962), a dancer often referred to as the 'forgotten man' of ballet. He entered the Russian Imperial Ballet School alongside Nijinsky and quickly became one of his closest friends. For many years, Bourman followed Nijinsky's development and career, first as a member of the Imperial Ballet and later as a star of Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. In 1911, Bourman joined Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, where he remained until 1922. In 1927, Bourman and his wife, Léocadia Klementovitch, moved to the United States, where he became the ballet master at the Strand Theatre in New York City.
