This book features an ABC verse in which each letter represents a different profession. Accompanying the verse is an illustration depicting an ABC city, where each profession from the verse has a corresponding pair in the illustration. Notably, the illustration was created in the Wimmelbook style.
The author of the verse, Irina Tokmakova (1929-2018), was a talented writer of children's books, poet, and playwright. She was also the wife of the illustrator Lev Tokmakov and a member of the Hans Christian Andersen Award, having served on the IBBY Executive Committee.
The book was illustrated by May Miturich (Miturich-Khlebnikov, 1925–2008), an artist who was the nephew of futurist poet Velimir Khlebnikov and the son of avant-garde artist Vera Khlebnikova. Miturich studied at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute, where he later became a teacher. In 2005, he was honored with the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun for his contributions to the arts.
