This is the French translation of 'Balanchine’s Tchaikovsky: Conversations with Balanchine on His Life, Ballet, and Music' (1985) by Russian journalist and musicologist Solomon Volkov (b. 1944). The book offers unique insight into the life and artistic philosophy of George Balanchine, one of the greatest choreographers of the 20th century. Through candid interviews, Balanchine reflects on his childhood in Tsarist Russia, his hardships during the Bolshevik era, and his emigration to America. He also shares his deep admiration for Tchaikovsky’s music—often misunderstood due to its popularity—and explores how it influenced his work.
